HEAL THE WORLD! (TALES OF INCLUSIVITY) #Blogchatter #WriteAPageADay

More than two years have crawled by, with a
virus having brought life to a standstill. The variants continue to evolve, along
with the vaccines, and it is to be fervently hoped that the end of the pandemic
is nigh. Many are the habits that have been inculcated, and hopefully, these
habits will continue to stay on in the lives of human beings everywhere. Precious
lessons have been learnt even as valuable lives have been lost.
My poem ‘Heal The World’ is an effort to encapsulate the COVID years that held the world to ransom.
Heal The World
The invisible organism in the air did reel,
Spreading its deadly touch, wherever it did
wheel.
The world suddenly paused, took a prolonged
break,
There was more than just disease and
devastation at stake.
People across the globe were asked to take a
step back,
Stay at home; lock the doors; cut no one any
slack,
The virus was dangerous, it showed no mercy
at all,
It could infect without bias; it could spread
a grey pall.
The young were able to protect themselves, oh
yes,
It was the aged who had to suffer all the
duress.
“Wash your hands, wear a mask, was the
constant refrain,
Be wary of hugs and kisses if you want to
break the chain.”
Social media buzzed with catchwords and
warnings stern,
“If you don’t stay safe, next will be your
turn!”
The numbers rose to unbelievable heights
As nations across the globe cancelled all
their flights,
Quarantine became the new global word,
No more could people be part of the herd.
Social distancing was practised, all gatherings
banned
Labour Day went by, without folks lifting a
hand.
As people stayed within, their vehicles
unused,
The air was cleaner, the environment no
longer abused.
Across the world, the death rate steadily
mounted,
Each positive case, every flouted rule was
counted,
Governments everywhere made their own
stringent laws,
Just so that they could clean up their acts, give
the virus a pause.
Maybe Mother Nature in her suffering had
needed a shield,
For today, men are suffering, but she herself
has healed.

The world stands in need of much healing. As you say, some cleaning up from our side is essential for that.
