CRAZY CRITTERS - #BLOGCHATTERA2ZCHALLENGE
When life became a bit too serene, P and V decided to
turn their lives upside down by bringing in Bronn (again from Game of Thrones),
a tempestuous Labrador, who from day one, decided that serenity was not for
him. He would chew up everything in sight and it was a nightmare leaving him
alone at home because there was no knowing what next he would destroy.
“He’ll settle down!” was the general verdict of people
who had not experienced the flurry of violent activity that Bronn was capable
of. Years went by as P and V tried all kinds of methods to curb his animal
spirits and turn him into something resembling a normal dog.
Till they brought in Archie, a cute little beagle, whom
they assumed would be a soothing companion to Bronn. People never do learn, I
guess!

From day one, Archie proved to be Bronn’s biggest
nightmare. It was as if he was seeing his life unfolding before his eyes, for
Archie proved to be one step further than him in every way. The destruction
turned momentous, but this time, it was Archie who wrought havoc while a
stunned Bronn watched from the sidelines.
This time, when we came back to Johannesburg, it was a
very different scenario. We could hardly recognize Bronn who had turned as good
as gold. On the other hand, there was this little whirlwind who got underfoot,
almost tripping us, as he tried to sink his teeth into everything he could.
Coming to the present day, Archie is a plucky little
creature who provokes Bronn at every juncture, grabbing his toys, which are a
pink bone, a black ball and a long strip that looks like half a skateboard. To
boot it all, there is a real bone that refuses to crack, however much it is
chewed on. The two fight over these, with Archie hanging on for dear life, as
Bronn shakes him around, trying to prise the bone/toy away from him. The bouts
are accompanied with constant growls that sound like as though a vacuum cleaner
is working all day long, as the two go around in circles, heedless of whatever
or whoever is in their way.
The other day we were watching one such bout, when Archie
began squealing, as though to imply that Bronn was hurting him. I was a trifle
concerned till P remarked, “That is just Archie behaving like a tragedy queen. Don’t
get conned by his squeals!”

My better half has been spending much of his TV watching time trying
to growl louder than the two crazy critters. When he found that that did not
work, he went to a supermarket and picked up a newspaper, which then he
proceeded to roll. He now uses this as a weapon to thwack the crazies on their
noses when they get going, which is very often. Archie has a tiny cage into
which he is bundled in when he goes absolutely bonkers, or when he has created
chaos through destruction.
However, to give them both credit, they are the most
beautiful creatures to look at. Bronn has melting eyes and since he has sobered
down completely, he gets the pats and the hugs. Archie has beautiful but rather
lifeless eyes, and he does not wag his tail much, which waters down his
personality, till he gets going.
Zo and Sam, of course, gambol around with them, rolling
on the floor and giving them fulsome hugs. The critters love the attention, and
they are relatively gentle with them. It is apparent that there is much love
there, a crazy convoluted kind of love which manifests itself in oodles of fur
flying around, spit balls and winding about legs.
What can I say? Life would be a lot more peaceful, but less
interesting without these crazy critters in our lives!

ReplyDeleteI am terrified of pets, but enjoy reading about others pets. This was a delightful read indeed. Love how the duo keep everyone on their toes! Much like children do! Mayuri
